Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said on Monday that passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were receiving their checked baggage within 15 to 20 minutes, following the introduction of a live baggage monitoring system.
The minister made the remarks while briefing journalists after visiting the airport in the evening and interacting with passengers in the baggage collection area to learn about their travel experiences and the efficiency of baggage delivery services.
According to Millat, passengers expressed satisfaction with the service and hoped that the improved standard would be maintained. He said the government was prioritising better passenger services and working to reduce inconvenience at the airport.
During the interaction, passengers welcomed the newly introduced live baggage monitoring system and thanked the government for the initiative, BSS reported, citing a press release. They also expressed hope that similar public welfare initiatives would continue.
Referring to the government’s broader development plans, Millat said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s vision was gradually being implemented across various sectors.
“Honourable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, ‘I have a plan.’ His plans are gradually being implemented across various sectors,” the minister said.
He added that the decision to introduce live baggage monitoring was taken around two months ago, and the system was now operational.
Millat said the government would continue efforts to improve passenger services, ensure greater transparency in baggage management and minimise difficulties for travellers.
Responding to a question about Riyadh-bound flights, the minister said operations remained temporarily suspended in accordance with a decision by the Saudi authorities. Flights would resume once the relevant authorities granted permission, he added.
As an alternative arrangement, the government was also exploring options to transport some affected passengers via Dammam or Madinah to ease their travel difficulties.
Newly appointed Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Dr Nurunnahar Chowdhury, along with senior officials from the ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, accompanied the minister during the visit.
