Shakawath Hossain honored as “The Best Hotelier of Bangladesh” at HI-AIM

Renowned hospitality and tourism professional, Shakawath Hossain, received the prestigious title of “The Best Hotelier of Bangladesh” at the 12th Edition of the HI-AIM (Hospitality Industry – Architecture, Interiors, and Management) Conference held at the Aloft Hotel Kathmandu, Nepal, on February 1, 2024, in collaboration with Marriott International.

The conference, a gathering of leading experts from the hospitality sector in South Asia, acknowledged Shakawath Hossain for his exceptional contributions to the advancement of Bangladesh’s hospitality sector. This recognition marks him as the first Bangladeshi Hotelier to receive such an esteemed award.

The event also honored five other distinguished personalities, including Rajeev Menon, President of Asia Pacific Excluding China (APEC) at Marriott International, Inc., Anoop Bali – Director & CFO, Tourism Finance Corporation of India Limited, Umar Khurshid Tramboo – MD, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa, Rajiv Kaul – Former President, The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts Limited and Suresh Kumar – Former MD of Fortune Park hotels Limited (Owned by ITC, India).

With a career spanning over two decades, Shakawath Hossain has played a pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh’s hospitality industry. As a practitioner, academician, and researcher pursuing a PhD in Tourism & Hospitality Management at the University of Dhaka, he stands out as the only Bangladeshi Hotelier with such diverse expertise. Starting his career at the grassroots level, he has worked in leadership roles with Starwood International & Marriott International. Currently serving as the CEO of Unique Hotel & Resorts PLC, he oversees three operational and four upcoming international chain hotels.

The HI-AIM award ceremony, which recognizes excellence in various categories, spotlighted individuals who have showcased exemplary leadership, innovation, and dedication to the growth of the hospitality industry. Shakawath Hossain’s commitment to social impact is evident through collaborations with NGOs and government initiatives to establish training programs for underprivileged and handicapped youth, offering them opportunities in the industry.
